The Hunt Begins In The First Trailer For The Predator

the-predator-teaser-trailer-lead

In the 31 years since the debut of Predator the franchise has returned in many incarnations, including two sequels and a pair of Alien crossover movies. When you see the new trailer for Shane Black’s The Predator—which is rumoured to take place somewhere between Predator 2 and Predators—there’s a good chance that Alien overlap will come to mind, as the parallels to that franchise are unmistakable. Before we go any further, here’s your chance to judge for yourself:

While the sense of humour that defined Black’s previous films as writer (Lethal Weapon, The Monster Squad) and/or director (Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys) is largely absent from the trailer, actor Sterling K. Brown insists that it’s present in the finished film. “Shane has his whole take on it and it’s very different than the original Predator,” he told EW. “It’s got a really wicked sense of humor to it, which I love about it—and it’s got a real camaraderie amongst the main characters that I think folks will be attracted to.”

While the trailer offers a pretty good overview, the official synopsis clarifies a few key details: “From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.”

The Predator arrives in theatres on September 14.
