Tatiana Maslany Makes The Star Wars Short List (Again)
As you may remember, Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany was once rumoured to be in the running for a major role in Star Wars spin-off Rogue One. (She ultimately lost the role to recent Oscar nominee Felicity Jones.) According to The Wrap, Maslany is now in the running for an even more prominent Star Wars vehicle, namely Episode VIII.
Currently aiming for a May 26, 2017 release, this still-unnamed movie will be directed by Rian Johnson (Looper), who also wrote the script. In addition to Maslany, frontrunners for this mysterious role include Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) and Olivia Cooke (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), but The Wrap claims that Johnson is still auditioning unknowns, so anything is possible.
How did this site settle on Maslany, Rodriguez, and Cooke as the finalists? According to unnamed insiders, all three have been invited to return for chemistry-reads with star John Boyega, a rare distinction that suggests they made strong first impressions. If Maslany survives this showdown and lands the role, there’s a good chance Orphan Black will experience some delays—unless there have been some major breakthroughs in cloning that we don’t yet know about.
