Star Wars Is About To Introduce Its First Official LGBT Character
Not long from now, in our very galaxy, we’re going to meet the first official LGBT character from the Star Wars universe.
Paul S. Kemp’s upcoming novel Star Wars: Lords of the Sith, which takes place between the end of “Episode III” and the events of Star Wars: Rebels, is set to feature a character named Moff Delian Mors. She’s an Imperial officer tasked with a far-away and unwanted assignment, and her personal life falls apart following the death of her wife in a transport accident.
Examples of gay characters in the Star Wars universe are few and far between; expanded universe characters Goran Beviin and Medrit Vasur, featured in the Legacy of the Force novel series, are married, for one. But editor Shelly Shapiro tells Full of Sith that Moff is the first “in canon” LGBT character, and she’s certainly the first since Disney took over the Lucasfilm franchise.
“It just makes sense,” said Shapiro. “There should be diversity in ‘Star Wars.’ You have all these different species and it would be silly to not also recognize that there’s a lot of diversity in humans.”
Fans will get the opportunity to meet Moff Delian Mors when she appears in Star Wars: Lords of the Sith, out on April 28.
