Star Wars’ Domhnall Gleeson Defends The First Order

Domhnall Gleeson’s character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens may be on the Dark Side, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t believe he has reason on his side.

At Toronto International Film Festival in support of his upcoming film Brooklyn, Gleeson told MTV News that the First Order isn’t so bad after all.

“They want everybody to be on the same page here,” he said. “I don’t see what’s wrong with that. Sure they’re strict, but the best teachers are strict.”

Plus, he either has a very cool General Hux toy on the way, or a very mean friend. See, a pal sent him a picture of an action figure of Gleeson’s character, but mid-interview Gleeson realized that maybe it was a hoax.

“I’m just thinking now that if he photoshopped that, then he’s absolutely destroyed my year,” he said. “It looks like it’s real. It would have been too much work to make it up.”

Whether the toy is real or not, there’s no doubting that Hux seems like a pretty stern guy, to say the least. But Gleeson said that maybe, just maybe, the First Order officer would crack a smile in the film.

“Jesus, I don’t know. Maybe,” he laughed. “It depends on where they go in the edits. They could go with the really happy dude or the more serious one. We’ll wait and see.”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters December 18.
