Watch The Cast of Star Trek Beyond’s Meaningful Salute To Leonard Nimoy

The team behind Star Trek Beyond is making sure that a cause Leonard Nimoy cared about deeply will live long and prosper.

They’ve selected one of the actor’s best loved charities, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, as one of the nine non-profit organizations that are a part of their fundraising Omaze campaign. Contributors to the cause can win a chance to be in the next Star Trek movie directed by Justin Lin (of Fast & Furious franchise fame) and due out in 2016.

The cast and crew have dedicated this week to promoting Nimoy’s charity by filming a video tribute to the man who made Star Trek’s Spock one of the most famous characters in sci-fi history. Spock 2.0 (that’s Zachary Quinto of course) spoke of his admiration for Nimoy as “an actor, a champion of the arts, and a true inspiration to so many.”

“Through his legendary portrayal of Spock, he influenced countless scientists and artists—myself and the rest of the cast included,” said Quinto. 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness was, fittingly, Nimoy’s final film performance. He died in January of this year from chronic lung disease. Weeks after, Quinto wrote an emotional tribute to the actor:

“I lost my own father when I was very young, so to have this man come into my life and resonate so many qualities to which I aspire, and be such an example of dignity and grace and fulfillment—that was the part of it that so far exceeded any expectations I could have had. And that is the part of me that feels the greatest sense of loss at his death. Leonard had a way of communicating that was never pedantic—he was never trying to teach, and yet he lived with such completeness that there was wisdom in everything he said.”
