Star Wars Mixes Old And New In The First Teaser Trailer For Rogue One
The release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is still nine months away, but it seems like fans have been waiting years for a glimpse of this mysterious spin-off.
The first teaser arrived online this morning, and it suggests something both familiar and new. With a more serious (and British) emphasis than any previous Star Wars movie, this trailer almost answers the question, “What would a Christopher Nolan Star Wars movie look like?” It also offers intriguing hints of the first score in the franchise by someone (Alexandre Desplat) other than John Williams. (Is it just me or do the alarm-like passages sound a bit like Jar Jar Binks?) In any case, this is a promising first look that suggests a fresh take on a very familiar world. Here are some of the highlights.
Star Wars gets another female hero
She kicks Stormtrooper butt
The Star Destroyer is back in action
So is the Death Star
Samurai (a key Star Wars inspiration) make a welcome appearance
AT-AT walkers invade a tropical environment
Over the next nine months, you’ll probably spend plenty of time watching the trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Be sure to savour this first taste.
