Watch Nic Cage Test Out His Costume For Tim Burton’s Doomed Superman
You’ve seen the infamous photos of Nicolas Cage in costume as Tim Burton’s ‘90s-era Superman that never was, but now there’s a new video of the actor trying on the suit for his director, testing it out for leaping-tall-buildings-in-a-single-bound-ability.
Part of a documentary by filmmaker and animator Jon Schnepp (Metalocalypse, The ABCs of Death), the footage shows Cage, Burton, and costume designer Colleen Atwood (Burton’s go-to designer with credits on Edward Scissorhands, Planet of the Apes, Alice in Wonderland, and more) at a fitting where Cage models an early skintight prototype.
“So, Nic, like, movement and stuff seems pretty good, huh?” Burton asks.
“Yeah, I mean, you were saying it’ll feel a little looser the more I wear it?” Cage replies, arms swinging and stretching towards the ceiling. “This is great, look at that.”
While Burton’s Superman Lives never made it past the pre-production stage, there are some out there who would still kill to see a Burton-directed Superman movie, Kevin Smith among them.
“If somebody was just like, ‘Would you like to see a Nic Cage Superman movie?’ I’d be like ‘F–k’ and ‘Yes, take all my money’ because I want to see what that looks like,” Smith tells Schnepp in the trailer for the new doc, The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? in which Schnepp scores interviews with Burton, Atwood, as well as the film’s screenwriters and concept artists..
The film gets a wide release on July 9 after a screening at Comic Con. Check out the trailer below.
