New ‘Fantastic Four’ Trailer Brings The Team To Their Doom
While the first trailer for “The Fantastic Four,” FOX’s brand-new take on Marvel’s first family, played heavy on the foreboding and light on the superheroics, the second trailer gives up the goods … and some of the bads, as we get our first (brief) look at the team’s arch-enemy, Doctor Doom.
Directed by Josh Trank (“Chronicle”), “The Fantastic Four” takes a more grounded, seemingly more serious approach to the super-team than the first two Tim Story-directed movies. Reportedly pulling from Marvel’s line of Ultimate Comics — as well as some original inspiration — the team is also younger than the previous iteration. Miles Teller stars as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, along with Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, Kate Mara as Susan Storm/The Invisible Woman and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm/The Thing.
When MTV News discussed Trank’s take on the “FF” last year with Jordan, he teased that, “It’s not your typical superhero film, you know, we aren’t looking at this as, like, being superheroes. We’re more or less a bunch of kids that had an accident and we have disabilities now that we have to cope with, and try to find a life afterwards — try to be as normal as we can.”
That idea seems to be on display about halfway through the trailer when the team is just “recovering” from getting their powers. … Though how much it plays out in the sure to be action-packed finale, we’ll have to stay tuned to see.
