Lucy Lawless Wants A Xena Reboot
Coming out of Comic-Con, fans of Lucy Lawless and Xena: Warrior Princess had reason to be excited. 14 years have passed since the series came to an end, and it has been an extremely fertile period for Lawless—who has played recurring roles in no less than 10 subsequent TV series—but she still has a special place in her heart for Xena. Speaking at Comic-Con, Lawless said she’s actively trying to make a reboot happen—and she’s open to several possibilities. “I’m pitching my ass off to make it happen,” she said. “Whether it’s with me or not. I think it’d be funny to have a reboot like Ash vs. Evil Dead—like middle-aged Xena in a muumuu with a bad attitude and a smoking habit.”
Speaking to HitFix, she acknowledged that reviving the series is a complicated matter, but her passion and enthusiasm has given fans hope. “I don’t know what the holdup is. It’s about who’s got the rights. But that’s a piss poor excuse anymore. I think they just… find who’s got the rights. Freakin’ pay it. It’s better to have 80 per cent of something than 100 per cent of nothing. Don’t waste this opportunity. Reinvigorate that franchise. They’re fools not to bring it back.”
Some fans misinterpreted this as confirmation that a reboot is imminent, but Lawless took to Twitter last night to explain that they’re not quite there yet.
Sorry, friends! news of a #Xena reboot is just a rumor. I’d love it to happen one day but it’s still in the wishful thinking stage.
