New Lights Out Trailer Wants To Make You Afraid Of The Dark All Over Again
Conjuring 2 director James Wan has a new pet project coming out—and it may be his most terrifying yet. Or, at least, his most terrifying project he’s not directing, just producing.
Lights Out follows the story of Rebecca, whose childhood fears of a greasy-haired creature (seemingly related to her unstable mother) has turned its gaze to her adorably freaked-out little brother.
This new trailer’s a good omen of things to come: it’s tense, tight, and creepy. The slow, unsettling build-up at the beginning effectively sets the tone and things just gets scarier from there. It’s a seemingly modest premise: when the lights go out, bad stuff happens. But sometimes it’s the simplest, most basic fears that crawl under our skin. We were all scared of the dark at some point in our lives, and Lights Out preys on that fear in some pretty frightful ways.
The movie’s based on the 2013 short film of the same name by Swedish director David F. Sandberg, who makes his feature directing debut with this the full-length update. Wan obviously vouches for the guy, because he’ll be directing Conjuring spin-off Annabelle 2 next, which hits theatres in 2017.
Sandberg’s short went viral when it was released—and for good reason. Hit play below and you’ll see why.
