Witness The Cutest Wannabe-Samurai Ever In This Trailer For Kubo And The Two Strings
If you’re going to be cast out of your quiet seaside village, trading your simple, idyllic life for a quest to save your family and uncover the secrets behind the untimely death of your samurai warrior dad, a monkey and a beetle are probably the two best companions a kid could pick to come along for the adventure.
In Kubo and The Two Strings (the directorial debut of Travis Knight, lead animator on Coraline, The Boxtrolls, and ParaNorman), fantastical storyteller Kubo (Game of Thrones’ Art Parkinson) is forced to run, leaving everything he knows behind after accidentally unleashing an ancient spirit harbouring an equally ancient grudge. As allies, he’s got the aforementioned animal pals, Monkey and Beetle (voiced by Charlize Theron and Matthew McConaughey, respectively), and a musical instrument infused with magical powers. As enemies, there’s The Moon King (Ralph Fiennes) and The (super creepy) Sisters (Rooney Mara). Might be a pretty evenly matched fight (as long as nobody flips Beetle onto his back).
Kubo and the Two Strings is in theatres August 19. Until then, check out the trailer and movie poster below, and enjoy the epic orchestral version of the Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” which, to our knowledge, requires more than two strings to play.
