Did The Trailer For Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Spoil The Ending?

In spite of mixed reviews, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom grossed over $700 million worldwide during its first weekend in release. This is at least partly a triumph of marketing, but that hasn’t stopped co-writer Colin Trevorrow (who also directed the film’s predecessor, Jurassic World) from taking issue with some egregious spoilers in Fallen Kingdom‘s final trailer. While we won’t reveal those spoilers here, we can say that the final line of dialogue is included along with several key images from the film’s conclusion.

“It was very frustrating for me,” Trevorrow told io9. “That’s a relationship that we have with marketing [and] there are a lot of different needs. I try to be very lucid and rational about it, [but] to speak frankly, there is a very, very small percentage of people who watch all the trailers. The rest of the world might only see one.”

As Trevorrow sees it, in order to “entice people to come back,” the Jurassic franchise must “prove the validity of its own existence” every time a new movie is released. “It stops us from resting on our laurels or just assuming the audience is going to show up,” he said. “The downside is it feels like marketing is constantly feeling the need to make the case. I would definitely have preferred those images not be seen—if you haven’t watched the trailers, just go see the film.”
