Video Proof That Chris Pratt And James Gunn Have Officially Wrapped Guardians Vol. 2

Most fans of Guardians of the Galaxy were ready for the sequel minutes after they stepped out of the theatre in August 2014. Unfortuantely, the process of delivering a sequel is pretty complicated. The team behind the original—including Chris Pratt and writer-director James Gunn—still had to tackle the unpredictable and time-consuming tasks of writing, designing, shooting, and editing another movie. As that process has unfolded, Gunn has marked significant milestones on social media, and the production just crossed the most significant one yet: the final day of shooting. A few hours before wrap, Gunn went live on Facebook in a video commemorating Pratt’s final shot. Based on everything the actor had to say, it looks like fans have two reasons to rest easy: (1) Gunn was well prepared for the shoot and (2) Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2  is on track to be “the greatest spectacle film of all time.”

Pratt’s pride in the film was apparent throughout his wrap speech to the cast and crew. “Each of us has our name on it and each of us has a piece of it for our entire lives,” he said in an inspirational flourish straight out of Friday Night Lights. “People are going to be really impressed that we did this movie and for the rest of your careers. The reason you’re here is because you’re the best in the business at what you do and if anyone doesn’t believe it and if you don’t believe it, just give it a year and wait for this movie to come out and you’re gonna see.”

As for Gunn, Pratt praised the writer-director for working incredibly hard and keeping the lives of the cast and crew in balance during the shoot. “I want to thank James, who made a 90-day shoot efficient, on time, under budget,” he said. “Nobody ever does that and it’s due to preparation. The separation is in the preparation.” At that point, Pratt turned and addressed Gunn directly: “You work your ass off. You have an entire movie done before we even get here to make this movie and, because of you, we all got to see our families a lot more than most people do on a movie like this.”

While it’s hard to say whether that extra family time will impact the finished film, the hard work can’t help but pay off. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 doesn’t arrive in theatres until May 5, 2017—but you can watch the complete wrap video below.
