This Game Of Thrones Actor Wrote A Hodor Tribute Song Called ‘Hold The Door’
Sam Coleman didn’t get a tonne of screen time as young Hodor on Game of Thrones, but the mark he left on the show will go down as one of its most heart-wrenching twists ever. (Warning: Spoilers ahead.)
The 19-year-old actor portrayed a stable boy named Wyllis, as he was then known, in a series of flashbacks this season, giving fans fascinating insight into the man who grew up to be Bran Stark’s caregiver. In the recent heartbreaking episode “The Door,” grown-up Hodor sacrifices himself to save his friends, and his bravery is memorialised by Coleman in a new song titled “Hold the Door.”
The piano ballad is a more hopeful spin on Hodor’s story, as Coleman sings about how Hodor accepted his fate and saw it as his mission to save Bran. “But there was one condition/ I only had one mission/ A simple one, I knew I had to face/ When I reached the time and place/ Hold the door,” Coleman sings, unleashing yet another tidal wave of emotions. You’ve been warned.
