The Fastest Ships In The Universe
If you have an obsessive interest in spaceships, Fat Wallet has a treat for you. In an effort to determine the fastest ship in the universe, the site has prepared an intriguing infographic. For the purposes of this exercise, both real and fictional ships were considered, so you’ll find aircraft from NASA considered alongside ships from classic movies and TV shows, including the Star Trek (Borg Cube, USS Voyager, multiple editions of the USS Enterprise), Star Wars (TIE Fighters, X-Wing, Slave 1, Star Destroyer, the Millennium Falcon, the Death Star), and 2001: A Space Odyssey (Discovery One).
This infographic also features some speedy vehicles that aren’t always classified as spaceships. Examples include the Delorean from Back to the Future, the Eagle 5 from Space Balls, and Doctor Who’s (not Dr. Who!) iconic TARDIS. Traveling at speeds of 10 quadrillion C (C = 299,792,458 m/s), the latter is right up there with the fastest of the fast. In fact, the only faster vehicle on record (in fiction) is Heart of Gold from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, which travels at a speed that is impossible to surpass: infinity.
