Every Vin Diesel Movie Is Getting A Sequel, According To Vin Diesel
Does it ever feel to you like Vin Diesel is able to wish sequels of his movies into being just by telling Facebook about them?
The action movie star is always a bit fast and loose with confidential information, and lately he’s been spilling the beans on all kinds of projects he’s working on—most of which are continuations of the movies that first made him famous. Or well, we think he’s working on them. You can never tell whether he’s got a new movie in development or whether he’s just so excited by the idea that he’s jumping the gun a bit.
Here are all the sequels Vin Diesel seems to believe he is working on right now, some of which we know are on the way and most of which we have no idea about:
Fast And Furious 8
Call this one confirmed, because it’s definitely happening. Of course, an eighth Fast and Furious flick was all but guaranteed the moment that FF7 came out and dominated the box office, but we didn’t know for sure before Diesel started describing what the next movie would be about on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Later that month, Dominic Turetto himself made it official when he announced the film’s release date at CinemaCon. Mark it on your calendars, folks.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
Surprisingly Diesel hasn’t said much about his involvement in this Marvel sequel—probably because the only thing he can say about it is “I am Groot.” But director James Gunn confirmed on Facebook last week that Groot would be back for another round of space adventures, so look forward to that!
XXX: State Of The Union, the sequel that featured Ice Cube as the successor to Diesel’s Xander Kane, came out just over 10 years ago—and wasn’t that well received. But Diesel is certain that the franchise will return, with him taking his rightful place once again as the star.
“While I was filming XXX, guys on set called me Air Diesel…,” he wrote on Instagram last week. “The time to return has come. Filming starts December in the Philippines. #ILiveForThisShit”
So is it happening? As far as we know, no one else in production has confirmed anything. But Diesel’s been talking up the script for the third xXx flick as far back as January 2014, when he suggested that Katy Petty play his romantic lead. Plus, Diesel does have a knack for convincing movie execs to listen to him. Case in point…
Right around the time that he was excitedly promoting the script for the third XXX, Vin also took time out of his day to dance for his Facebook fans in a video—to Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse,” of course—and update us on the DVD sales for Riddick, the third movie in the Riddick franchise behind Pitch Black (2000) and The Chronicles of Riddick (2004.)
After thanking his fans for their support, he wasn’t afraid to stoke the flames of a possible fourth movie, saying, “of course, Universal also says they want to develop the next one.” He and writer/director David Twohy, in fact, have plans for a fourth and a fifth movie to complete the saga. However, Riddick is a very personal character for Diesel—so much so that he leveraged his home to get the third movie made, all at the behest of his fans—and the timing for creating more stories in that world would have to be just right.
The Last Witch Hunter
This movie is not even scheduled for release until this fall, and already Diesel is pretty convinced there’ll be a second one.
“So the studio apparently is so excited by the Last Witch Hunter – The Axe and Cross franchise… that they are already commencing on the next one,” he told his Facebook fans in June. “The first one doesn’t hit theaters until October 23, yet they want me to commit and already block out time to film it.”
The Iron Giant 2
On Friday, Diesel took to his Facebook page to answer a question we all have: which of all the characters he’s played is his all-time favorite? His answer, of course, was the Iron Giant, who’s is coming back to theatres later this year in a new remastered version of Iron Giant. But then he dropped a bomb on his fans when he added, “P.s. Don’t be surprised when you hear WB announce the sequel.”
