Meet Disney’s First Polynesian Princess In Stunning First Moana Trailer
Prepare to fall in love with Moana.
Disney has dropped the stunning first teaser trailer for its upcoming animated feature starring the celebrated studio’s first Polynesian, sea-voyaging princess. The computer-animated film—the first from prolific Disney animators Ron Clements and John Musker, the duo that gave us The Little Mermaid and Aladdin—introduces us to spirited, 16-year-old Moana (voiced by newcomer Auli’i Cravalho), who departs on a daring mission to fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest.
But she isn’t alone. She has her pet pig Pua and a once-mighty demigod named Maui (voiced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) by her side, and together they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage of self-discovery. Maui is a legendary figure in many cultures in the Pacific, and as he demonstrates to Moana, he uses his “mighty, magical fishhook” to slow down the Sun and pull up islands from the ocean’s floor.
The film’s musical score, which you can hear a tiny part of in the teaser, includes tracks from Opetaia Foa’i and Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, who recently won the Tony Award for Best Score of a Musical.
Moana hits theatres November 23, 2016.
