Marvel Promises A Very Different Villain In Ant-Man And The Wasp

As Josh Brolin acknowledged last month, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has had some difficulty with villains over the years—and it seems this is a well-known issue behind the scenes. In fact, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently revealed that concerted efforts have been made to breathe new life into the MCU’s villains. As it turns out, this initiative played a significant role in the decision to feature Ghost (played by Killjoys‘ Hannah John-Kamen) in Ant-Man and the Wasp.

“It was our producer Stephen Broussard and [director] Peyton Reed and our writers who are looking for a different kind of villain, a different, unique villain,” Feige explained. “We knew this film will be coming off of Thanos, will be coming off of Killmonger, how do we find a villain that is very different and very unique? And when people see the movie, I think they’ll see that we found it in Ghost.”

Reed is especially excited about this new villain, as he was never especially fond of Yellowjacket, Ant-Man’s adversary the first time around: “The villain in that movie felt like a bit of a vestige from the era in which that project was started, [which was] around the time of Iron Man one, where you have an antagonist who has a similar power set [as the hero]. I was hell bent on doing something different.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp arrives in theatres on Friday. Check out the trailer below.
