A Very Ajay Christmas Blog
What do I want for Christmas?
2014 has been an especially rough year for lots of people all over the world. I don’t even need to pick or even hint at any particular tragic conflict or chaotic mess to articulate my point. With that in mind, for Christmas this year I’d really like compassion and understanding to take root in places where violence and intolerance still reign.
If you were hoping for a more materialistic answer, I’d be happy with an Alienware Alpha system. It’s basically a tiny PC that looks like a modern console, but instead it plays PC games on your living room TV and you can use a keyboard and mouse. Currently, I have a PC in a HUGE red tower hooked up to my TV so I can game from the couch. It’s functional, but it looks a little out of place in my living room.
What am I doing for the holidays?
This being only my third Christmas with my girlfriend—who as of a week ago became my fiancé—we’re still developing our holiday traditions. No doubt, there will be various dinners with family and friends— but the holiday event I’m most looking forward to this year will be our New Year’s Eve Murder Mystery party. We’ve ordered a murder mystery game kit and invited some of our best friends over for a swanky party where we’ll all be playing detectives. I suppose not all of us will be detectives, as at least one of us will actually be the murderer. That’s actually my secret weapon in winning the game and correctly solving the mystery—while everyone else will go into the game thinking it’s only one murderer, I’ll be operating under the assumption that it was a two person job, so I’ll be keeping my eyes and ears open for clues that hint at collusion between multiple parties.
If that wasn’t enough mystery for my holidays, we’re also taking on another room at Toronto’s Real Escape Game and hopefully also visiting my friend Ryan’s recently launched escape game facility: LockQuest! Unlike the other escape game facilities, LockQuest helps you solve the puzzle if you’re ever stuck, in order to ensure you’re not disappointed at the conclusion.
What am I most excited for in 2015?
I think I may have said the same thing last year, but I’m honestly most excited for the unknown. I bet there are things out there, be they TV series, movies, games or life experiences that are destined for me in 2015 that I haven’t even the slightest idea of yet.
For example, I went to Paris this year! I also went to Quebec City and tried my hand at Crashed Ice. I went to Disneyland and then Disney World too! I even got engaged!
Last year, if you asked me what I was excited for in 2014, I wouldn’t have said “going to Paris!” or “going to Disneyland,” because I had no idea back then that I’d be doing those things. But here we are and the year is almost over and when I look back it’s all the unexpected things that are the real highlights.
Sure, I know to expect Jurassic World, Avengers: Age of Ultron and the new Star Wars film at the end of the year, but for now I’m mostly excited about all the surprises that await me in 2015.
I hope it brings you some awesome surprises, too!
