Surprise! Here’s A Teaser, Poster, And Release Date For The Cloverfield Sequel
Well over a year ago, news circulated that Dan Trachtenberg (a relatively unknown filmmaker responsible for the short Portal: No Escape) would be helming a post-apocalyptic thriller for J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Paramount Insurge. At the time, the film was going under the monikers Valencia and The Cellar, but fans had a hunch this was code for Cloverfield 2, a sequel to Matt Reeves’ also-super-secretive 2008 creature feature, Cloverfield.
Now, the first teaser for the new film has dropped, sporting a new title that definitely confirms our sequel suspicions. It’s called 10 Cloverfield Lane. So yeah, pretty much a sequel.
Or is it? From the looks of this clip, this seems more like a quasi-sequel, or spin-off. But I’m sure that’s just what they want us to think, considering the success of Cloverfield relied so heavily on its top secret production and refrain from showing off its Godzilla-esque monster.
The cast is also entirely new, which makes sense since everyone basically died in the previous flick. Instead of Lizzy Caplain, T.J. Miller, and Michael Stahl-David running for their lives across Manhattan, we get Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman, and John Gallagher Jr. playing board games and listening to Tommy James and the Shondells’ version of “I Think We’re Alone Now” in a cozy bunker.
That’s pretty much all we know at this point—and that’s just the way we like it. Check out the teaser and poster below, and mark your calendars for March 11, 2016, which is less than two months away!!
