Move Over, Superman: The First Wonder Woman Footage Is Here

The next two years are going to be huge for the DC Universe. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice debuts in March 2016, followed by the hotly anticipated—and seemingly very goodSuicide Squad in August. But all eyes are on Wonder Woman in this recently released sizzle reel.

The first footage from Patty Jenkins’ upcoming Wonder Woman movie debuted late Tuesday night during the DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League special. The behind-the-scenes sizzle reel gives us some crucial insight on the iconic character, her unique origin story, and it even gives us a sneak peek at some footage from the film, which officially lands in theaters June 2017.

Starring Gal Gadot, the DC origin tale will tell the story of Amazon princess Diana and how she became the legendary superhero. “We are going to see her coming of age, the entire history, what’s her mission,” Gadot teased during the first look clip.

Chris Pine, Danny Huston, and Robin Wright co-star in the film, which is currently filming overseas.

“Telling a story of this now is pivotal and important, the story of a very powerful woman,” Pine said. (Amen to that, our new favourite Chris!)

Wonder Woman will be DC’s first female-fronted superhero movie since 2004’s disappointing Catwoman. And with Marvel constantly pushing back its Captain Marvel release (now slated for July 2018), we’re way overdue for some girl power on the big screen. Wonder Wonder is one of the most iconic superheroes in existence, so it’s about time she got some respect among her surly male counterparts.

After all, she is the best fighter in the DC Universe. (It’s all of that Amazonian blood and warrior determination, you know?)

Gadot will make her debut as Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and both films will continue to build out the burgeoning cinematic universe based on DC Comics characters. Yesterday, DC and Warner Bros. released the first official look at the upcoming Justice League movie, featuring Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, Ray Fisher’s Cyborg and Ezra Miller’s The Flash.
