Will The Affleck Direct The Batman?

Why is Batman always so glum? Is it because playing the character takes so much work? Is it because the role requires a time commitment longer than the average Hollywood marriage? Being Batman is a tough job—you try wearing a rubber suit to work everyday—and Ben Affleck’s workload is rumoured to be increasing since he signed his life over to Warner Bros. and DC. The newest bit of bat-gossip has Affleck starring in and directing a standalone bat-film slated for late 2018.

Latino Review reports that The Batman will be penned by Argo screenwriter Chris Terrio (the man who crafted this heavily quoted piece of NSFW dialogue). Terrio also wrote Affleck’s Dark Knight debut, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, due out next March, and has been hired to pen the bat-centric Justice League: Part One and Justice League: Part Two, scheduled to be released in 2017 and 2019 respectively.

The Batman, if it actually happens, would be Warner Bros.’ 2018 bat-release (because a year without Batman is like a year without sunshine, water, or oxygen even) but what kind of movie will it be? A prequel to Batman v Superman? A follow-up to Affleck’s run in with Jared Leto’s Joker in Suicide Squad (out August 2016)? A completely separate thing? A stage play? At this point, anything is possible.

As Latino Review points out, San Diego Comic-Con is drawing near and with Marvel MIA, all eyes will be on DC to see what they reveal about their rival cinematic superhero universe and one of its biggest stars, The Batfleck.
