Will Arnett Would Totally Voice A Star Wars Droid In The New Han Solo Movie

It’s nice to have friends in high places, and right now in Hollywood, you can’t get much higher than Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The duo behind The LEGO Movie and 21 Jump Street currently have three shows in production, including the critically beloved Last Man On Earth, and the untitled Han Solo Star Wars anthology film in pre-production. It doesn’t get any bigger than the Millennium Falcon.

Will Arnett, who worked with Lord and Miller on The LEGO Movie and the upcoming LEGO Batman Movie, is already reaping the benefits of his friendship, and professional relationship, with the dynamic duo. We caught up with the actor at a recent press day for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows, out today, and Arnett opened up about the top-secret, super confidential conversations he’s been having with Lord and Miller about joining Han and Chewie in their solo adventure.

“They said to me, and I was honoured, they were like, ’We want you to be Han Solo’—and I was like, ’Oh my God!’—and they said, ’Hang on, Han Solo’s grandfather,’” Arnett joked. “Han Solo’s grandfather. So I said no, that I was busy. Obviously, I don’t have time for all of that old-age makeup, and they said, ’You don’t need any.’ And I was like, ’Hey, that hurts my feelings.’”

OK, all jokes aside, Arnett is interested in embracing his inner automaton in the highly anticipated Star Wars flick. When asked if he’d like to voice a droid in the upcoming Solo flick, similar to what his buddy Bill Hader and comedian Ben Schwartz did for BB-8 in The Force Awakens, Arnett said, “I’m not going to ask for a part with somebody else. I can’t. I mean, I would. Let’s be honest, it’s Star Wars. Of course I would. I would do anything. J.J. Abrams? Love that dude. If he wanted me to voice a droid, I would.”

Joining the Star Wars universe, even as a “vocal consultant,” would be a dream for any actor, but right now, Arnett is more than content hanging out in Gotham City as the voice of the Dark Knight himself, LEGO Batman. In fact, Arnett’s Caped Crusader has been so well-received, some are even calling him the “Hero Batman Fans Need Right Now.”

“I was really happy that people responded so well to the trailers,” Arnett said. “We’ve been working pretty hard on it for the last little while, and I’m excited for people to see it. I think the fans will be rewarded with good, funny, cool Batman movie with a great story. I’m excited to see what people think of the full movie.”

The best part: LEGO Batman’s solo adventure brings Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and a whole bunch of other DC heroes along for the ride, no waiting for Justice League: Part One required.
