Who Should Play Catwoman And Poison Ivy In The Gotham City Sirens Movie?

Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn was undeniably the breakout star of Suicide Squad. With her wicked grin and unhinged bravado, she was the only member of Amanda Waller’s Task Force X who made crime look fun. So it’s no surprise that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are already working on a Harley-centric follow-up film: Gotham City Sirens.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Robbie, a producer on the film, will team up with Squad helmer David Ayer to bring the Sirens and their sinful exploits to life. Gotham City Sirens, initially written by Harley’s creator Paul Dini, follows the late-night adventures of Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman in Gotham City. Bringing together the DC Extended Universe’s bold new star with two of the most iconic villainesses in Batman’s rogues gallery is clearly a no-brainer.

With a director now on board, Gotham City Sirens is being fast-tracked for the DCEU, which means casting Selina Kyle and Pamela Lillian Isley should be next on the agenda. Megan Fox is reportedly eyeing the role of Poison Ivy, but to be honest, that feels like an uninspired choice. Not to mention, Ivy and Catwoman can’t be the only Gotham City locals making their debut in Sirens; we need to be prepared for various members of the Batfamily to drop in too. (Please, please give me a Batgirl movie, Warner Bros.)

So let’s take a look at who we think would make Gotham City Sirens the female-led film it has the potential to be. With Robbie as Harley Quinn and Ben Affleck already cast as the DCEU’s Batman, here’s a dream cast for the rest of the characters we want to see in Sirens:

Priyanka Chopra as Catwoman / Selina Kyle

Everyone knows Catwoman and Bruce Wayne has a complicated history. With 44-year-old Affleck in the Bat suit, it makes sense that Gotham City Sirens would cast a more mature Selina Kyle. While Eva Mendes was my initial pick for Catwoman, I kept coming back to Chopra. The Quantico star has the kind of screen presence that Selina Kyle demands; when Priyanka Chopra walks into a room, she commands attention. Perhaps even more importantly, when she speaks, she purrs.

Natalie Dormer as Poison Ivy / Dr. Pamela Lillian Isley

Poison Ivy is more aggressive than her counterparts, and she doesn’t let a lot of people in. In fact, you could say that Harley is her only human friend. On Game of Thrones, Natalie Dormer proved that she was a master manipulator, and that’s a talent that would come in handy as Ivy. Not to mention, Robbie and Dormer would make an excellent team.

Haley Bennett as Batgirl / Barbara Gordon

Batman tends to utilize the many talents of his fiercely smart protégé Barbara Gordon when going toe-to-toe with the Sirens. I know the internet really wants to cast Emma Stone or Anna Kendrick in this role, but I don’t see either as Batgirl. It’s not that they don’t have the depth or the wit of Babs—they do!—but Haley Bennett has the kind of even–keeled personality we’ve come to expect from Batgirl, especially is this film plans to kick off that long-rumoured Batgirl and the Birds of Prey movie. And as we witnessed in The Magnificent Seven, she’s more than capable of taking out the bad guys.

Zoe Kravitz as Huntress / Helena Bertinelli

If Ayer does decide to include the Birds of Prey in Gotham City Sirens—and honestly, why wouldn’t he?—Zoe Kravitz makes perfect sense as Huntress, the more extreme Bird of Prey. She’s incredibly ruthless and somewhat aloof, but she’s fiercely loyal to her team. Kravitz would not only bring out Helena’s steely attitude but she’d also inflict her certain brand of badassery, which she honed through pivotal roles in X-Men: First Class, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Divergent.

Katheryn Winnick as Black Canary / Dinah Lance

If Batgirl is the brains and Huntress the muscle, Black Canary is the heart of the Birds of Prey. Oh, and she’s got a whole lot of grit and attitude. Enter Katheryn Winnick, a genre star in the making. She’s a scene-stealer in Vikings, playing one of the most multi-layered characters on television. And who’s more multi-layered in the DC universe than Dinah Lance? She doesn’t wait around for someone to give her anything; she takes it. The same can be said for Winnick. Oh, and she really, really wants the job.
