In spite of his 30-year reign as one of the world’s biggest movie stars, Tom Cruise has always been somewhat peculiar. The most socially acceptable aspect of this is probably his daredevil streak, which found an ideal home in the Mission: Impossible franchise. While actors have been known to exaggerate their stunt risks, Cruise seems to be genuinely willing to put himself in close proximity to danger for the good of his movies and/or a satisfying adrenaline rush. His latest risk—and arguably the most insane stunt he will ever attempt—involved dangling from a moving airplane in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.

When discussing stunts, Cruise tends to be full of confidence, but he admits that this Rogue Nation maneuver pushed him well outside of his comfort zone. “I couldn’t sleep the night before,” he says in a new featurette. “And then came the day. I was like, ‘Okay, this is really going to happen.’ If something went wrong, I can’t get into the airplane until we land. I’m feeling the force of the wind hit me. I’m actually scared sh*tless.”

In spite of that fear, visual effects supervisor David Vickery says Cruise repeated the stunt eight times. To see him and that plane in action, watch the new Rogue Nation featurette below.
