The X-Files Revival Is Officially Happening: Here’s What We Know

xfiles-reboot

The truth is out there… and by “out there,” we mean RIGHT HERE. After months of rumors and speculation, “The X-Files” is officially returning to TV. Excuse us while we go throw our pencils at the ceiling to celebrate this tremendous news.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will be back to reprise their iconic roles as FBI agents — and paranormal activity sleuths — Fox Mulder and Dana Scully in a six-episode limited series event on Fox. “The X-Files” revival will begin filming this summer, which hopefully means we’ll get a premiere date in the fall. Although, an official airdate is TBD.

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” series creator Chris Carter said in a press release. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

No kidding. Just imagine how much mystery-solving Mulder and Scully can do with smartphones now!

The supernatural drama ended its impressive nine-season run in 2002, but that wasn’t the last time we saw Mulder and Scully. “The X-Files” hit the big screen for the second time with 2008′s “The X-Files: I Want to Believe.” If you haven’t seen it, no worries. We’ll give you a quick recap. TL;DW: Mulder was pardoned by the FBI for going M.I.A, Scully returned to her medical career and the former partners-turned-lovers were living together.

So what kind of X-file will bring Mulder and Scully back into the FBI fold? Here’s hoping it has nothing to do with the black oil virus and/or bees.
