Is The Force Awakens The Best Star Wars Movie Ever?
The release of The Force Awakens is still four months away, and we’re unlikely to see any official reviews until early December, but unofficial reviews are a different story. Believe it or not, there are people out there who have already seen work-in-progress cuts of the year’s most anticipated film—and one of them has gone on the record with his reaction.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Drew Struzan, he’s the artist behind many of your favourite posters, most famously everything connected to George Lucas and/or Steven Spielberg franchises Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, and Star Wars. The latter credit explains why J.J. Abrams brought him out of retirement to work on The Force Awakens. “He says we’re using all the original people: John Williams, [Lawrence] Kasdan, Harrison Ford’s in it,” Struzan told Movie-Weekly, remembering an early conversation with Abrams. “Everybody’s in it and everybody’s writing and making the music and we have to have your art to make it the real thing. So, of course, I’ve got to do it for George and I’ve got to do it for Star Wars.”
The first of Struzan’s new posters was revealed recently at D23. In order to create this image, he first needed to familiarize himself with the new film—and he emerged from the experience with some very good news. “He [Abrams] showed me like half the movie and it was just… a wonderful film and I know it’s going to be grand. I got to read the script and subsequently I’ve seen half of it and I can tell you and the fans this: honest to God, it is far and away probably going to be the best Star Wars you’ve ever seen.”
