Choose To Watch The First Trailer For T2: Trainspotting

You know the monologue, and you’ve probably seen a poster of it with every single word typed out in Arial in somebody’s dorm room.

In Trainspotting, Ewan McGregor’s character, Mark Renton, takes off at a sprint by way of introduction, and rattles through a list of choices one can and should make to live a seemingly fine existence, something he deliberately chose not to do: “Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television.” You know the rest.

Now, in the latest trailer for T2: Trainspotting, the long-awaited sequel to the 1996 cult classic, Renton spruces up his old mantra with a new twist.

“Choose life,” Renton begins. “Choose Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and hope that someone, somewhere cares. Choose looking up old flames, wishing you’d done it all differently. And choose watching history repeat itself. Choose your future.”

The sequel, which comes a full two decades after the gnarly, adrenaline-surging original, updates us on the lives of Renton and his ruffian pals, and this trailer in particular does a great job of showing us exactly what to expect. We’ve got retrospection, nostalgia, and maturity at play here, but this is a Trainspotting sequel, after all—so expect plenty of expletives and a memorable scene in a bathroom or two.

T2: Trainspotting injects itself into theatres February 3, 2017, so brush up on the original in the meantime.
