Sorry, But Shailene Woodley Is Definitely ‘Not Interested’ In Making A ‘Divergent’ TV Movie

Riding high on Katniss Everdeen’s dystopian coattails, The Divergent Series seemed like an sure recipe for success at the box office, but the most recent film in the franchise, Allegiant, stumbled critically and commercially earlier this year.

So it wasn’t too much of a surprise when Variety reported that Lionsgate was planning to wrap up the Divergent series with a television movie and potential spinoff series.

However, franchise star Shailene Woodley isn’t down with reprising her role as Tris for the fourth and final entry, Ascendant, on the small screen.

“I didn’t sign up to be in a television show,” she told Screen Rant while promoting her latest film, Snowden. “Out of respect to the studio and everyone in involved, they may have changed their mind and may be doing something different, but I’m not necessarily interested in doing a television show.”space

Her co-stars Miles Teller and Ansel Elgort have also implied that they would not return for the television conclusion. In July, Elgort told The Huffington Post, “It’s obviously sad because the cast all really liked each other, but hopefully we can all work together on a different project.” Meanwhile, in August, Teller told Variety, “We all really enjoyed that time we spent together and those characters.”

So far, none of the actors from the film franchise have signed on for the television movie or the potential spinoff series, which doesn’t bode well for the future of the franchise. Of course it would be considerably easier to recast for the spin-off series, that still leaves a giant, Ascendant-sized hole in Tris and Four’s story.
