Non-Paranormal Activity Terrifies House Hunters

In a post Blair Witch Project world, it’s hard to believe anyone could mistake Paranormal Activity for a documentary, but some did. With the fifth sequel (Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension) arriving in theatres next week, there aren’t many left who believe in the franchise’s authenticity… or quality. (The box office of the last two entries is concrete proof of diminishing returns.) But even if this franchise is running on fumes, there’s no question that Paranormal Activity taps into some universal fears—in believers and skeptics alike.

For proof of this, look no further than a new promotional video that shows everyday home buyers getting scared senseless as they unknowingly wander through the original Paranormal Activity house. Before this opportunity was unleashed on the public, a special effects team rigged the residence with all kinds of jump scare potential (a shaking chandelier, a flickering microwave, etc.), earning precisely the reactions they were looking for.

Especially skeptical viewers may dismiss this as yet another phoney publicity stunt, but the reactions seen in this video aren’t much of a stretch, whether they’re authentic or not. You don’t have to believe in paranormal phenomena to be alarmed when mirrors start spontaneously smashing. For all these visitors know, a crazed gunman is shooting bullets through a window.

It may be a total hoax, but you can’t judge for yourself until you see the video. If that piques your curiosity about Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, watch the new trailer below.
