Brace Yourselves, New Harry Potter Stories Are Coming

Earlier this month, J.K. Rowling officially confirmed that the eighth instalment in the beloved Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, was the final story in the Potter saga. However, that didn’t mean she was done adding to the wizarding world mythos at large. It appears that Rowling, like us, just can’t quit Hogwarts.

The best-selling author will release three new short e-books in September “that dig deep into the Harry Potter stories,” Pottermore announced on Wednesday. The trio of books, titled Pottermore Presents and each retailing for $2.99, will feature “tidbits taken from Pottermore’s archives and original writing from J.K. Rowling.”

Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide isn’t quite as arduous a read as Hogwarts: A History, but that’s probably for the best. The book dives into the “nooks and crannies” of everyone’s favourite School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, providing “details about the Hogwarts ghosts [and] what happens when the Sorting Hat can’t decide on a student’s house.” (Spoiler alert: That’s called a Hatsall.)

Meanwhile, Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Political and Pesky Poltergeists will dive into the darker side of the wizarding world and feature a brand-new original story from Rowling on Potions professor Horace Slughorn. And Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies will celebrate Hogwarts’s winning staff, including a new story from Rowling on Minerva McGonagall and “her involvement in the Second Wizarding War.” (She did a hell of a lot more than utter Piertotum Locomotor to a bunch of suits of armour.)

Between these e-books, all of the short stories and new information being released on Pottermore, The Cursed Child script release, and the forthcoming big-screen trilogy, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Harry Potter isn’t going anywhere in the near future. While that may illicit a groan from some Potterheads, it’s exciting to think about what Rowling will do with her ever expanding wizarding world next.

Because let’s get real: It’s her story to tell.
