LEGO Dimensions Busts Out The Good Stuff With The Ghostbusters Story Pack

It’s been just over a year since LEGO Dimensions first launched, and we’ve built and played through a significant numbers of expansions ever since. Heck, we even tackled the original Ghostbusters Level Pack back in January. While Level Packs for Back to the Future, Doctor Who, and Midway Arcade have been more than welcome additions to the Dimensions catalogue, we were beginning to wonder if, after five Waves, the series would start to feel like it was spinning its bricks.

Good news: everything we dug about those Level Packs has been expanded on in these newfangled Story Packs. In addition to a vehicle and minifig, these babies also come with a brand-new Gateway to build atop your Toy Pad that previously only sat underneath Dimensions’ Gateway Portal.

Fittingly, the Ghostbusters Story Pack lets you piece together Zhu’s Chinese Restaurant, in addition to providing an Abby Yates minifig and the revamped Ecto-1 (which also serves as an Ectozer). While it would’ve been swell to have all four Ghostbusters in one box, your Abby minifig allows you to switch between the foursome, all of whom possess distinctive skills required to get through the story.

While it’s nice to finally get to build a new Gateway, it’s doubly sweet that the in-game experience is meatier than before. Instead of the regular three-stage Level Packs, the Ghostbusters Story Pack offers twice the amount of missions, which really goes a long way of recreating the movie’s plot without rushing things too much. It does boast additional voice work from some the film’s cast, but Chris Hemsworth was clearly off filming Thor: Ragnarok.

After beating all six missions, brick collectors will want to spend some time hopping through different dimensions to solve various puzzles in the all-new Rip Toy Pad mode, another welcome addition to the series. Also fresh to the franchise Battle Arenas that include new modes like Capture the Flag, Objective, Base Bash, and Tick, Tag Boom!, all of which can be played cooperatively or competitively.

As always, the game’s meticulous attention to detail is tops. Of course, this makes its frequent and hilarious spoofs all the more satisfying. If you’re a fan of the new Ghostbusters film (we are!), then you’ll be rewarded with some of the most clever LEGO game humour to date. While the focus here is certainly the film’s more action-packed moments, every inch of your screen will contain something chuckle-worthy. Bring on more LEGO!

LEGO DimensionsGhostbusters Story Pack is out now for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Wii U. See Abbey Yates in action in the spotlight below.
