Iron Man Ain’t The Only Bad Guy In ‘Captain America: Civil War’

capt-amer-crossbones

“Captain America: Civil War” will be packed with Avengers and other iconic Marvel Cinematic Universe characters when it comes out in 2016. But up until now we still weren’t sure who they’d all be fighting against — other than each other, of course.

Now, according to “Civil War” star Daniel Brühl, the infamous Baron Zemo will finally be making his MCU debut.

So who’s Baron Zemo? The short answer is, he’s this guy:

In Marvel comics continuity there are actually a bunch of Baron Zemos, as it’s an inherited title. However, there are only two you need to worry about: the 12th, Baron Heinrich Zemo, was a top scientist in the Nazi party who fought Captain America in World War II alongside the Red Skull. The 13th, Helmet J. Zemo, is Heinrich’s son; in the comics, he revives his father’s super-villainous legacy after Captain America returns back from the dead.

While fans have speculated that Brühl would play Zemo since he was cast back in November, the German actor was initially to speak about his involvement with the film, telling the Wall Street Journal in March that “I cannot even talk about the part, really, because I would be too afraid to give something away and then I’ll end up in the Marvel prison and I do not want that.”

Now, it appears, his tune has changed. “I think I can tell you that without being thrown into Marvel Prison,” he said to The Independent, confirming that he’ll be playing Baron Helmut Zemo when the film begins shooting at the end of April. “For the first few days I’ll walk around like a little boy, just amazed by the megalomania of it. It’s such a huge project. We could do 20 films with the budget.”

Of course, rumors still abound that Zemo won’t even be the Big Bad of this movie. Instead that honor might go to Frank Grillo, who’ll be reprising his role from “Winter Soldier” as Crossbones — and is probably getting a costume soon, if Grillo’s Twitter is any indication
