George R.R. Martin Is Taking On TV Werewolves Next

Game of Thrones fans are about to get a second small screen helping of George R.R. Martin’s wild imagination, and this time it’ll be especially hair-raising.

The author announced on his Not a Blog this weekend that Cinemax has ordered an adaptive pilot script for his early novella Skin Trade, a detective story about a private eye who hunts down the same kind of vicious beasts that took down her dad when she was a kid. And he’s really, really excited about this one too.

Evidently, GRRM’s been trying to get the “werewolf noir” adaptation off the ground for decades—yes, decades—and he personally helped to pick out the screenwriter for the pilot, Kalinda Vazquez.

“That was not an easy choice. Cinemax and my agents set me up for meetings with close to a dozen different TV writers, many of them very impressive, but Kalinda’s take on the story and the characters blew me away,” Martin wrote. “She loves the story and the world, and really seems to get Willie and Randi, and her pitch to Cinemax was one of the most polished and professional I’ve ever heard. I love her enthusiasm, and look forward to working with her.”

Of course, Martin won’t be devoting too much time to the new show because, well, there’s the not-so-small matter of “Winds of Winter” to attend to.

“While I would have loved to write the script and run the show myself, that was never really in the cards,” he wrote. “I have this book to finish. You know the one.”

Yup. We do indeed.

BTW, even though Martin has promised Winds of Winter is his current priority, some fans are still not 100% convinced of this. #BestSellingAuthorProblems.
