Fox News Commentator Battles Star Wars Fans

When you think of bullies mocking movie fans for their unconventional taste, the last franchise you expect them to focus on is Star Wars, easily the most broadly celebrated movie series of all time. Just about everyone likes Star Wars, so it’s not easy to find allies when trashing the series. That may explain why Fox News contributor Katherine Timpf had to save her nasty anti-Star Wars rant for late night.

Appearing on Red Eye w/ Tom Shillue last month, Timpf mocked those who were brought to tears by the then-recent trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This came in the wake of an extremely unpopular tweet:

During her appearance on Red Eye, Timpf again asserted her feeling that the Star Wars movies are beneath her enlightened sensibilities. “I have never had any interest in watching space nerds poke each other with their little space nerd sticks, and I’m not going to start now,” she said. “You people are crazy. You Star Wars people are crazy. Yesterday I tweeted something and… people threatened my life. You’re not really branding yourself in a way that makes me want to join your life-threatening club.”

There’s no reason to expect insight on this topic from someone who equates movie enthusiasm with “branding yourself,” but Timpf’s latest ramblings have gone beyond ignorance and belligerence into full-blown delusion. In a recent article for the National Review, she overlooked this feud’s nerd-baiting origins and portrayed herself as the victim of online bullying. “I’m sick of oversensitive mobs in our overly sensitive society bullying people into saying that they’re sorry over jokes—even if the subject of the joke is something as serious as Star Wars. So, for that reason, I will not apologize.”

While death threats and apologies both seem like ludicrous solutions to this feud, there’s no denying that Timpf was looking for a fight. To see her antagonism in action, watch the original Red Eye clip below.
