The Doctor Takes A Trip To Middle-Earth, Stays In A Hobbit-Hole

If there’s one thing Doctor Who needs it’s more Elvish speakers—and we’re officially one step closer to making that a reality now that Peter Capaldi has embarked on a diplomatic mission to Middle-earth.

The Twelfth Doctor recently travelled to New Zealand where he most likely watched kiwis, met the country’s official Wizard, and visited the set where Peter Jackson’s countless Hobbit-related movies were made. We only have photographic evidence of the last one, though.

Jackson, a Whovian himself, has mused about the possibility of directing an episode “He’s a genuine big old Doctor Who fan,” Stephen Moffat told the UK’s Metro. “He’s mentioned it… and then we email him and he doesn’t reply,” the showrunner joked. Though a Jackson-directed episode could be pretty cool, it’s probably better for the show’s budget if he doesn’t make himself available. The director is known for his, err, generous shooting schedules. “I think his plan is we all go to New Zealand and spend six months making it and our plan is he comes to Cardiff and makes it in 12 days,” said Moffat, “There’s that disparity.”
