A Doctor Who Spin-off Is Officially In The Works

Next year, Whovians can look forward to not one, but two Doctor Whos on the small screen. BBC revealed a new spin-off series entitled Class will take the franchise in an exciting new direction we’re currently unaware of but totally jazzed to explore.

Executive produced by Steven Moffat, Brian Minchin and YA author Patrick Ness, who will serve as showrunner, Class will consist of eight 45-minute episodes set at London at Coal Hill School, which we’re all familiar with.

Not much else to report at this point, other than this enigmatic message from BBC: “Incredible dangers are breaking through the walls of time and space, and with darkness coming, London is unprotected.” They also promise all the “action, heart, and adrenaline” of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Hunger Games. That’s a lot of action, heart, and adrenaline, but this is the Whoniverse, so expect nothing short of greatness.

Ness clearly has Doctor Who showrunner Moffat’s blessing, who said “No one has documented the dark and exhilarating world of the teenager like Patrick Ness, and now we’re bringing his brilliant story-telling into Doctor Who. This is growing up in modern Britain—but with monsters!”

We don’t know precisely when Class will be in session, but it’s set to start filming in and around Wales in spring 2016, and should arrive later in the year.
