Darth Vader Doesn’t Care About The Force Awakens

If Darth Vader was around to offer his take on The Force Awakens, there’s a good chance it would be something like the perspective of David Prowse. Best known for playing the body of Mr. Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy (James Earl Jones provided the voice), Prowse will be recognizable to some as Julian, the quiet bodyguard—of Vader-ian proportions—in A Clockwork Orange.

As it turns out, any nostalgia Prowse might have for the Star Wars movies has been crushed by feelings of exclusion. Speaking to The Guardian about Episode VII, he admits that his lack of involvement has left him completely uninterested. “If I’m playing the part of Darth Vader in it… I’d be very interested,” he said, before adding a potentially revealing detail. “But if they’re putting somebody else in Darth Vader’s mask, then I’m not the slightest bit interested.”

Is he suggesting that another actor will play Vader in the new film or is he simply struggling to accept his character’s demise? Based on Prowse’s lack of knowledge about The Force Awakens, we’re putting our money on the latter. “The new film, I know absolutely nothing about,” he admits. “I don’t really want to talk about it, as I know nothing about it whatsoever.”

Thanks to the franchise’s long history, The Force Awakens appeals to a massive demographic, but the 80-year-old Prowse is still outside the target audience. With that in mind, we’re guessing his take on the new trailer would be roughly the same, even if he never donned the Vader mask. “I haven’t seen it at all,” he explained, dispelling any confusion with some terse follow-up: “No. I’ve seen nothing about it whatsoever. No. No.”
