The New Captain America: Civil War Trailer Says It’s Time To Pick A Side

Take the gridiron battle that went down between the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos last night, ramp up the animosity between the two sides, and raise the stakes by about 1,000 percent and you’ve got the showdown we’re about to witness between an Avengers team divided along political, ethical, and moral lines.

In Captain America: Civil War, it’s Team Cap going up against a government-backed and sanctioned Team Iron Man. The new trailer, aired during last night’s Super Bowl game, gave us another look at the freshly splintered squad of Marvel superheroes and offered no hint of a possible reconciliation. On one side there’s Iron Man aligned with Black Panther, The Vision, Black Widow, and War Machine. On the other, Captain America is backed by Scarlet Witch, Winter Soldier, The Falcon, Hawkeye, and Ant-Man (the new trailer revealed a first look at Paul Rudd’s updated battle gear).

ANTMAN

Both sides remain dedicated to the safeguarding of humanity against supervillains like Ultron and Loki but after an incident involving the Avengers results in tragic collateral damage, the government insists on regulating their activities (like they do with daycares or nursing homes). Corporate-minded guy that he is, Tony Stark goes along with the plan. The Captain does not.

The new clip is soundtracked by sportsfan-like chanting and an ominous warning from Iron Man that Cap has chosen the wrong side. Whether that’s true or not remains to be seen but fans can pick their team and show their support on social media with the new emojis Marvel released last night.
