Hold On To Your Chariot: The First Ben-Hur Trailer Has Arrived
Terrifying shipwreck? Check. Slice-and-dice swordplay? Check. Horse-trampling chariot race? Check. Morgan Freeman sporting long dreadlocks? Um, I guess check.
If you have no idea what I’m writing about, a) learn to read headlines and b) get acquainted with William Wyler’s Oscar-sweeping 1959 Biblical epic before Timur Bekmambetov’s (Wanted) expensive-looking remake charges into 3D and 2D theatres August 12.
Based on Lew Wallace’s 19th century novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ, as well as its two big-screen adaptations—one in 1925 and the other, as you now know, in 1959—the story concerns a prince named Judah Ben-Hur (played here by Jack Huston, taking over for Charlton Heston and Roman Novarro), who’s falsely accused of treason by his Roman officer adopted brother (Toby Kebbell) and subsequently stripped of his title, forced into slavery, and separated from his true love (Nazanin Boniadi). After years at sea, our titular hero returns to his native land with a vengeance, but instead finds redemption.
