Ben Affleck Reveals Why The ‘Batman V Superman’/’Star Wars: Episode VII’ Rivalry Is His Fault

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” director Zack Snyder has been engaged in a public rivalry with “Star Wars Episode VII” director JJ Abrams at least since San Diego Comic-Con, but now the Caped Crusader himself has come out of the shadows via Snyder’s Bat-Signal to spread the word: it’s all his fault.

“I think it was started because JJ and Colin Anderson, who is a great [camera] operator who always works on my movies, and JJ is always trying to steal, and I’m trying to steal back, sent me a picture of the two of them wearing cheap Batman masks,” Affleck told Yahoo! during a “Gone Girl” junket.

“I show it to Zack and I say, ‘This is bulls–t, we have to do something,’” he continued. “Zack had the means at his disposal to retaliate [with] appropriately art-directed stuff, Storm Troopers getting stuffed into cars by the Gotham Police Department, and stuff like that.”

Of course, Team “Star Wars” also retaliated with a picture of the Batmobile hidden in the Millennium Falcon, and the joy this is bringing fans of both franchises worldwide isn’t lost on the Batfleck.

“It is fun,” Affleck concluded. “I think it’s cool. It’s a weird thing, the sort of meta-awareness of these movies, and the two directors going back and forth. I like it. It’s cool.
