Ben Affleck Shares His Thoughts On Directing A Standalone Batman Flick
“Will the Affleck direct the Batman?” is a question we first asked ourselves last June when Latino Review published a piece stating the next standalone Batman film will be penned by Argo (the Oscar-winning film Ben Affleck directed) screenwriter Chris Terrio. Then, in August, Den of Geek reported that Warner was so impressed with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that they extended a “golden deal” to Affleck, inviting him to star in a new trilogy of Batman films.
So, yeah, lots of Affleck Batmans.
Now, Total Film’s upcoming cover story features interviews with Affleck and BvS producer Charles Roven, and Latino Review is back with more choice quotes, allegedly taken directly from the issue, which hits newsstands very soon. Here’s what Affleck had to say about the potential directing gig:
“If I could make it work, yeah, obviously that would be like a dream. The trick is, as to any movie, is to make sure that you—if you’re going to direct it—that you can make it good. You’ve got to have the right idea and the right take on it… Broadly speaking, it’s something I’d be open to, for sure. It’s a very exciting idea.”
Roven was just as thrilled by the notion of Batman directing Batman, but had this to say about Affleck: “He’s about to start a movie now (Live By Night), and he’s also got obligations to be in the Justice League movies. The calendar is a little bit tricky. Of course, the script obviously has to be worth of him wanting to direct it. And once that happens, it’s still got to fit into the calendar. We’re hoping we can make it happen. We’re just at the beginning of the question.”
The Batwheels are turning!
