Once the mood, tone and atmosphere of this show was established, which was mainly grounded in its very first episode, Ripper Street's case of the weeks have begun to draw back the curtain inch by inch on our main characters revealing that Reid suffered the lost of a child and that Jackson and Susan are running from their past. However, little light has been shed on Detective Sergeant Bennet Drake... until now.
This week’s episode, "The Weight of One Man’s Heart", centres on Reid’s muscle, Drake, who is haunted by his past when his former coronel pays him a visit and drags him into a nefarious scheme. Also weighing on the sergeant’s heart is his love for Rose whom he seems compelled to protect and take care of. Bennet is a character who is hardened by war, is incredibly loyal and can wear his heart on his sleeve. Something tells me the two above situations he finds himself in this week will definitely be a test of strength.
