Last weekend was the premiere of the new Victorian procedural crime drama Ripper Street, which can now be seen right here! I was pleasantly surprised by the series. The second episode, titled "In My Protection" airs this Saturday at 9E/6P and will be seen on spacecast.com the following day. In it, an elderly toymaker is brutally murdered and the prime suspect is an urchin who is part of a street gang proving that Jack the Ripper wasn’t the only one to set the standard on grisly deaths in Whitechapel.

I soon learned that this show is not about Jack the Ripper or the unsuccessful manhunt – it is a show about fear in the aftermath – fear from the Whitechapel locals of another Ripper attack, fear from the failure of letting this notorious murderer roam free and fear that’s fueled by the media of the time. Tell me that’s not something we can relate to in this day and age.

Ripper Street airs this Saturday at 9E/6P on SPACE. You’ll have a chance to watch it here on spacecast.com and let’s hear what you think of episode!
