So I'm not going to pretend that this is the first time Merlin is being broadcasted – UK has already concluded the series (and I'd like to thank EVERYONE who has managed to not spoil it for our Canadian viewers – we have a few more weeks to go so if you can keep the spoiler-free train going for a little while longer, we are forever grateful for it!). I mention this because if we flashback to when it was announced that series 5 would be Merlin's last, it was this episode that followed, making fans and viewers more wary that the end was just around the corner.

Why is that significant? Well, it's weird how things are put into perspective. Sure, the writers weren’t planning on when their cancellation was going to be announced and therefore, there is no impact on how they wrote their episodes. But just think about how we entered this fifth season knowing it was the final one; knowing that we were literally 13 episodes away from Merlin's final hour. UK viewers back in October 2012, however, had that hope that Merlin's fifth series was business as usual until they reached that ninth episode, titled "With All My Heart" and they asked, 'will the show be able to wrap everything up in the next five episodes?'

Viewers perspective... it's a funny thing.

Anyway, where does that leave us? Ahh yes, Morgana's puppet Queen is still running rampant and Merlin must move fast to bring Gwen down from her evil high but how will he be able to do that? Spoiler: it rhymes with blagic! We all know what Arthur thinks of that, though with the end just around the corner, how many more times can the "Will Merlin's magic be exposed?" well be tapped? Also in this episode we shall see a familiar face return (and I use the word 'face' loosely).

Check out Merlin this Saturday at 8E/5P on SPACE and online at space.ca the next day!
