No one seems perturbed by the existential quandary presented by the title The Last Exorcism 2—If the first was the last, how can there be another? You lied, Eli Roth!—as the sequel is set for release this March. A box office success, the first combines a mockumnetary scenario which inevitably gives way to found footage, as we watch a young girl, Nell (Ashley Bell), twist and shout with demonic possession. Ending on an ambiguous note (for some characters, at least), the sequel keeps the premise and Bell, but drops the shaky-cam for a tradition look.

Getting buzz by promoting the fact that there was no CGI, only Bell’s bizarre body contortions, there's a certain circus freak fun element to the first film. Set in deep dark Louisiana, when a pastor without faith goes to exorcise Nell he encounters powers he didn’t know were real. Starting up a few months after the bloody conclusion, Nell is found terrified and with no memory of recent events (say, for instances, exorcisms). Sent to New Orleans to recuperate, the demon that plagued her before really likes Mardi Gras and follows her. So, spoiler, there's another exorcism.

Without the found footage gimmick, it'll be interesting to see if audiences welcome back dear Nell and all her contortions. Directed by Canada’s own Ed Gass-Donnelly (Small Town Murder Songs), it looks as though the devil worship angle is developed this time—more Rosemary’s Baby than The Exorcist. Except, probably, it won’t be half as good as either…But why count our demons before they’ve been exorcised? Here’s the trailer, so just take a look for yourself!
