And now we’re left with a Death Star of a director: J.J. Abrams has been tipped to direct Star Wars Episode VII!

Are you upset about this? Really!?

Let me sooth your nerves with one question: name a single flop Abrams directed. You can’t! All three of the films he’s helmed were huge hits, and number four (Star Trek Into Darkness) will be no different.

Maybe you didn’t love every bit of Super 8, and yes, Star Trek had a few too many lens flares for your taste buds, but overall it was EXACTLY what that franchise needed. It was to Star Trek what George Lucas' prequels should've been to Star Wars.

If Abrams can do that with the second (?) most beloved sci-fi franchise of all time, why shouldn’t we have faith that he’ll give us something equally awesome with Lucas’ baby.

There’s even room for some super awesome in-geek jokes, like having a Romulan-looking alien in the background, or some Starship Enterprise-like computer doodad displaying data about Tatooine.

I’m excited, and I think you should be, too. The Force is strong with Abrams… Engage!
