The Little Kid In Alden Ehrenreich Is Having A Blast With Han Solo

As we’ve explained in the past, 26-year-old actor Alden Ehrenreich went through hell to beat out 2,500 other actors and land the role of young Han Solo. In a recent conversation with Interview magazine, the actor said his involvement in the film has yet to involve much beyond the audition process. “I got to spend a lot of time with the guys who are directing the film,” he said of Phil Lord and Chris Miller (21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie). “Getting to be around them and being around the world a little bit has been the main experience so far. I did my audition on the Millennium Falcon for one of my screen tests, which was pretty cool.”

A longtime Star Wars fan, Ehrenreich looks forward to meeting Harrison Ford one day, but he’s still adjusting to the rapid rise he’s enjoyed over the last seven years. “It’s been so surreal that at a certain point you stop expecting [things] to feel real at all,” he explained, before elaborating on the specific thrill of Star Wars. “I remember pretending to be the characters in the movies when I was a little kid. The last three movies I’ve done, I played a cowboy (Hail, Caesar!), then I played a soldier (Little Birds), and now I play Han Solo. So the little kid in me is having a real joyride.” Ehrenreich will also be joined by Donald Glover, who was cast to play a young Lando Calrissian just last Friday.

The still untitled Han Solo movie is on track for a 2018 release, but you can get a taste of Ehrenreich’s Han Solo charm next month when Rules Don’t Apply—Warren Beatty’s first new movie in 15 years—arrives in theatres. Check out the trailer below.
