Alan Rickman’s Final 2 Films Hit Theatres This Year
Movie lovers are still reeling over the loss of Alan Rickman, who passed away on Thursday at age 69 after battling cancer. Surely, the world has lost one hell of a fine actor, but his legacy will live on through classic films like Die Hard and the Harry Potter films.
Rickman kept busy in the years leading up to his death—so much so, that he still has two films yet to be released. The first, Eye in the Sky, is a thriller that also stars Helen Mirren and Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul. It hits theatres March 11 and chronicles the story of a top-secret drone operation meant to capture terrorists in Kenya.
The veteran actor’s final film will be Alice Through the Looking Glass, which releases on May 27 and follows the titular character’s journey back to Wonderland to save the Mad Hatter. Rickman reprises his role as the Blue Caterpillar, so he doesn’t actually appear onscreen. But, as in the trailer for Eye in the Sky, his iconic voice is the first thing we hear in the teaser below.
And in another bittersweet example of the work Rickman did leading up to his death, the actor lent his voice to a video for refugee aid. In the recording, uploaded to YouTube last month, a tortoise munches a strawberry onscreen, while Rickman’s voiceover explains how watching the video raises funds for Save the Children and Refugee Council.
Just goes to show, Rickman was a man of many ranges and talents: something we’ll continue to see even after his death.
